Carmona was previously a settlement known as Latag, which was annexed for the city of Silang upon the latter's creation in 1595. The origins of its name are mysterious. In 1856, the settlement's inhabitants demanded the conversion of Latag into a city, spearheaded by Tiburcio Purificacion.
